5 Of The Best – Community Shield Debut Goals

The Community Shield or as it’s properly known, “The Charity Shie.. Community Shield or you know, what ever they call it these days”. It’s the curtain raiser for the new season. It’s spotting a ship on the horizon after you’ve spent the entire summer on a desert island of no football.

And according to Jose Mourinho, we’re counting it as a trophy now so you know, hurray! Real football is back. Apart from anything else, it gives people a first look at some of the big summer signings, sure you may have seen the odd highlights package doing the rounds on twitter but this year’s edition gives us a chance to see what Lacazette is really all about and how Morata is going to fair in this Chelsea side.

So with that in mind we’ve put together a little collection of some of the best Community Shield debut goals

Shevchenko vs Liverpool

Shevchenko’s arrival at Stamford Bridge seemed like the icing on top of a very expensive cake for Chelsea and when he latched on to Lampard’s long ball over the top and cooly finished in the corner it seemed as though he might be worth every penny of that 31m pound price tag, (believe it or not kids, that used to be a lot of money). Things didn’t quite work out for the Ukrainian striker in England but for that brief moment, Chelsea fans were delighted.

Van Nistelrooy vs Liverpool

Nothing will endear a new Manchester United signing to the fans like a goal against Liverpool and when the age old rivals met at the Millenium Stadium in 2001, Ruud Van Nistelrooy did just that, Giving United’s supporters a first glimpse of the deadly finishing that would make him a hero at Old Trafford.

Malouda vs Man Utd

Florent Malouda, remember him? Rio Ferdinand will certainly wish he could forget about the frenchman. Look at Rio, trying so hard to stay on his feet, trying to push Malouda away from goal, desperately doing everything he can to make it as hard as possible for the Chelsea new boy to score. But for nothing, as Rio got a faceful of turf, Malouda steered home a finish with the outside of his boot to announce himself to the Chelsea faithful

Alan Smith vs Arsenal

Alan Smith’s move to Manchester was somewhat controversial given his previous seemingly undying loyalty to Leeds United but despite that or maybe because of it, he was warmly received at Old Trafford. Injury blighted his career but when he smashed home this screamer against Arsenal, it seemed like Smudge was going to do very well for the Reds.

Chicharito vs Chelsea

West Ham have probably made one of the signings of the window this year. Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is a naturla goalscorer. When he made his debut for Manchester United, he even scored by accident, (sort of). The ball ricocheted off his foot, hit him in the face and went in. Stick him in your fantasy team lads.
