5 Of The Best – Footballers named Dembele

As us football fans scour the internet for all the latest football news, there seems to be one name that just keeps popping up no matter what league or competition it is we’re reading about. That name is of course, Dembele, from the Premier League to the Scottish Premiership, to the Bundesliga and the Champions League, it seems that a Dembele is scoring a screamer or putting in a match winning performance just about every weekend.

It can of course get a bit confusing at times, so to clear up any misunderstandings, we’ve decided to put together a quick run down of the 5 best Dembeles currently playing professional football.

Ousmane Dembele, Borussia Dortmund, Age 20

Ousmane began his career with Rennes in his native France. It was not long until scouts from Europe’s major clubs began circling and he signed a 5 year deal with Borussia Dortmund last summer. Ousmane immediately became a first team regular at Dortmund, contributing 6 goals in 36 appearances last season from his position of wing forward.

He is a player of outrageous ability, we’re talking potential Balon D’or winning ability. He has blistering pace, is a superb dribbler, has excellent shooting ability off either foot and for such a young player, he makes good decisions in the final third. Word is that Barcelona are keen on bringing him to the Camp Nou this summer, although for his own development he would probably be better off staying with Dortmund and playing regular football for the next couple of seasons. Already a full France international, the future is very bright for this young Dembele.

Mousa Dembélé, Tottenham Hotspur, Age 29

Mousa is an integral part of the best Spurs side in living memory. Mousa came to the Premier League in 2010 when he signed for Fulham. Originally signed as a winger, he soon converted to play as a central midfielder and his standout performances caught the attention of Spurs, who triggered a £15 million buy out clause in his contract to bring him to White Hart Lane.

He has gone from strength to strength since signing for Spurs and although he may not always get the plaudits like his team-mates Harry Kane or Dele Alli, his fellow players and manager Mauricio Pochettino know just how good he is. Dele Alli has gone on record to say that Mousa is in fact Spurs’ best player. Whilst Pochettino has stated that he is one of the 5 ”Genius” players that he has ever worked with. Some of the other ”Geniuses” that the Spurs boss was referring to include Maradona and Ronaldinho, which gives you a example of how good Mousa is close up.

Anybody who has watched Spurs closely over the last few seasons will tell you that they just aren’t as good a team without the dynamic Belgian pulling the strings in the centre of the park. If Spurs are to continue their climb towards the top of English Football, keeping Mousa in form and fitness will be key.

Moussa Dembele, Celtic, Age 21

Another Dembele who began is career with Fulham, where he moved from PSG’s youth set up in 2013. Moussa (spelt with a double S, in case you think he has the same name as Spurs Dembele) is an out-and-out number 9, and made a name for himself as a teenager by netting 17 goals in 59 games for Fulham in the Championship. Several Premier Leagues clubs were interested in signing the youngster last summer but he wisely choose to go to a club were he would play regular first team football and joined Celtic.

He instantly became a cult hero north of the border, when he banged in an impressive hat trick at Ibrox in the first Old Firm game of the season. A lethal finisher with excellent movement, he was superb for Celtic as they cruised to the SPL title last season, hitting 17 goals in just 29 games.

This summer, much like last, has seen him linked with a move to some of Europe’s biggest sides. However, much like Ousmane, he is probably best off sticking with Celtic for another year, where playing regularly in the SPL and Champions League will better aid his development. Already capped by France at every youth level up until U21’s, expect to hear plenty more about this Dembele in the future.

Garra Dembele, FC Solothurn, Age 31

Garra Dembele is a Malian International Striker who currently plys his trade with Swiss 2nd division side FC Solothurn. He has led a nomadic and colourful career playing for clubs in France, Bulgaria, Greece, Denmark, China and Germany. The highlight of his career came in the 2010/2011 season when he scored 38 goals in just 25 games for Bulgarian side Levski Sofia.

Garra was tipped for big things as a teenager and played U18 and U19 football for France. His career however, has been littered with controversy. He has had several run-ins with the police and has been accused of focusing more on living the high life than concentrating on his football. May his career be a cautionary tale to all young Dembele’s.

Karamoko Dembele, Celtic, Age 14

Ok, so he’s not a professional footballer just yet, but barring a major injury he will be. Unless your one of those old skool types that refuses to have any social media accounts, you will have more than likely seen videos of this teenager’s unbelievable skills already.

Born in London, Karamoko moved to Glasgow at the age on 5. He made headlines last year when he made his debut for Celtic U20’s at the age of just 13. Brendan Rodgers has already asked him to train with Celtics first team on several occasions, showing just how highly he is rated.

Celtic and Scotland both face a massive battle from English clubs and the FA to keep this footballing prodigy playing his football in Scotland over the coming years. Check out his silky skills in the video below and it’s clear to see that this kid has the potential to be the greatest Dembele of them all…
