Arsenal and Man City Target Young Ajax Star

Arsenal and Manchester City are monitoring 20-year-old Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong according to reports in the Sun.

The Premier League sides are hopeful that a deal could be done as soon as January with the talented youngster entering the final 18 months of his current contract. They believe that he might be available for as little as £5 million.

That would be a steal for a player who, just last season, was voted as the Talent of the Season in the Jupiler League, Holland’s second tier where Ajax’s youth side play. His exploits for Jong Ajax earned him a call up to the first team and despite only seven appearances, he has already hit the target for the Dutch giants and was brought on in last season’s Europa League final against Manchester United.

While any player would be tempted to play under Pep Guardiola, Arsenal would probably be a better fit. Arsene Wenger is always keen to nurture and play young players and with Ajax legend Marc Overmars now Director of Football at the North London Club a deal between the two clubs might be made more easily.

Who ever wins the race for his signing will be getting a very good player, check out some of his skills and highlights below.
