Chelsea v Arsenal Player Ratings

It finished honours even as Chelsea and Arsenal drew 0-0 at Stamford Bridge earlier today. Most people expected the home side to steamroller their visitors and run out comfortable winners, but Arsene Wenger’s men put in a surprisingly solid display to leave Stamford Bridge with a point for the first time in six seasons. Let’s see how the players rated.

Chelsea

Courtois 7

Overall the busier of the two keepers. Some tidy saves and will be happy with his clean sheet.

Azpilicueta 7

Wellbeck caused him plenty of problems at times, but all in all a decent display from Chelsea’s Mr.Consistent.

David Luiz 4

Had played well up until his sending off. In times gone by he may well have escaped with a yellow, but the Brazilian should be well aware that flying into challenges as he did means Red these days, will be a big loss for Chelsea over the next three games.

Cahill 5

Looked really rusty at times and may well soon find his place in the starting XI coming under pressure from Christensen and Rudiger.

Moses 7

Full of energy down the right flank as usual, final ball let him down on occasion however.

Kanté 6

Finished strongly, but not for the first time this season nowhere near his brilliant best.

Fàbregas 6

A couple of sumptuous through balls early on, but his lack of mobility as part of a midfield two was a real issue for the home side.

Alonso 6

Failed to have his usual impact down the left flank, worked hard throughout however.

Willian 5

A bad day at the office for the Brazilian, failed to impose himself on the game.

Pedro 5

Missed a great chance after 20 minutes and was hooked at the break.

Morata 7

A good all-round display and won his battle with Mustafi, but never got the chance he craved.

Subs

Hazard 7

Went close with one effort from the edge of the box, the sooner Chelsea have him back fully fit the better.

Bakayoko 7

Brought real energy and dynamism after coming on at half-time, which allowed his side to regain parity in the middle of the park.

Christensen N/A

Not on long enough to rate.

Arsenal

Cech 7

Excellent. A commanding display by the ex-Chelsea man.

Koscielny 8 ( MOTM )

A captains performance. Apart from the Liverpool game, Arsenal generally look a much better team with him in the side.

Mustafi 5

Looked like the weak link in the Gunners defence, lost his personal duel with Morata.

Monreal 6

Still looks out of place as a centre-back, but no mistakes which is progress.

Bellerín 7

Just shaded his battle with fellow Spaniard Alonso, got in behind and crossed well on several occasions.

Kolasinac 7

Gave nothing away defensively and carried a real threat going forward.

Ramsey 8

Worked tirelessly in attack and defense, unlucky not to score with a scuffed effort in first-half.

Xhaka 7

Had a thunderous effort whistle just wide in the first-half, passed the ball well throughout.

Iwobi 7

Brought great energy to the no.10 role, which allowed his team to dominate the midfield in the first-half.

Welbeck 7

A workhorse. Causes teams so many problems through sheer determination and work-rate.

Lacazette 6

Missed a sitter in the first-half, but movement caused Chelsea plenty of problems.

Subs

Sanchez 6

Buzzed around a bit and tried to make something happen for his side, but couldn’t add that extra bit of quality Arsenal were crying out for.

Giroud 6

Came on with 15 minutes left as Arsenal chased a winner, but failed to make an impact, to be fair received no decent service.

Elneny

Not on long enough to rate.
