Chelsea vs Watford Player Ratings

Champions Chelsea fought back to claim a 4-2 victory over Watford, but despite the result, will Antonio Conte and Marco Silva be happy with how their teams played? Let’s see how the players rated.

Courtois – 6

Not a great day for the Belgian stopper. Beaten at his near post by Doucoure for the equaliser.

Rudiger – 5

Really struggled to get a handle on Richarlison, had the young Watford man been more clinical the Hornets might have been out of sight.

David Luiz – 5

Poor game for the Brazilian. Failed to impose himself on the game and his poor positioning and his weak header led to Watford’s equaliser.

Cahill – 5

Very bad game for the England man. Often out of position and seemed off the pace.

Azpilicueta – 7.5

Worked hard up and down the flank and was as dependable as always, took his goal well to give Chelsea the win.

Fabregas – 6

Went missing when Watford started to impose themselves on the game, missed a chip when a simpler finish probably would have done the job.

Bakayoko – 6.5

Always hard to fill the boots of N’golo Kante but he kept things moving without ever controlling things in the middle of the park.

Alonso – 5

Very quiet game from the Spaniard. Didn’t offer much going forward, just about coped defensively.

Pedro – 8

Scored a superb goal to get the game going and laid on the assist for Batshuayi’s equaliser. Always a threat.

Morata – 6

Showed some good touches but failed to trouble Watford’s defence too much.

Hazard – 6.5

Disappointing day out for Hazard who couldn’t seem to find a way in to the game and couldn’t find a way through Watford’s well organised defence.

Zappacosta – N/A

Willian 7.5

Made a real difference when he came on for Alonso. His strong running and energy proved too much for Watford as they faded late on.

Batshuayi 8

Two goals from the bench to equalise and then kill the game sends a strong message to Antonio Conte. Batshuayi is prepared to fight for his place and won’t be replaced easily.

Gomes – 6

Not at fault for any of the goals but still, can’t get a seven when you concede four goals.

Mariappa – 6.5

Had a tough day at the office, hacked down Pedro but also made a superb clearance over his own bar.

Kabasele – 7

The Belgian defender was excellent throughout and kept Morata very quiet. Was unlucky that his header found its way to Azpilicueta for the Chelsea man to score the winner.

Britos – 5

It was all going well for the Watford centre-back but as he tired his head seemed to go and Batshuayi twice took advantage to score and break Hornet hearts.

Femenia – 7

Superb throughout especially early in the second half as Watford took control of the game. Had Richarlison been more clinical he would have a few assists to his name.

Cleverley – 7

Settling in to this side very well. Silva seems to be encouraging him to get forward and he was unlucky to see a few efforts blocked.

Doucoure – 7.5

Took his goal well and worked like a trojan. Superb.

Holebas – 5

Had a nightmare in the end. Three goals came from down his flank. One to forget.

Pereyra – 6.5

His goal was a fine reward for his solid performance. Sad to see him go off injured.

Deeney – 6

Worked hard, fought, did all the nasty bits but didn’t have the same impact as he did against Arsenal.

Richarlison – 7

Looks a serious talent and set up Pereyra to give Watford the lead but should have had two goals himself. Better finishing and Watford would have won the game.

Watson – 5

Beaten far too easily by Willian in the build up to the winner.

Gray N/A

Carrillo – N/A
