Manchester City v Everton

Manchester City put in a solid if unspectacular performance during their opening-day victory over Brighton last weekend. Many have said since then that this was exactly the no-nonsense type of win City will need this term, but I’ll be honest I was a bit disappointed by their showing. I expected Citeh, with their star spangled attack, to come out all guns blazing and blow us all away with a carnival of sexy football. Even though the fireworks never quite transpired you have to pity the unlucky team that Guardiola’s side will face on the day everything does click because that front-line is frightening.

Everton got their season off to a solid start beating Stoke 1-0 at Goodison Park, with their prodigal son Wayne Rooney netting the winner. The Toffees have since made Icelandic play-maker Glfyi Sigurdson their latest big-money summer-signing. It will be interesting to see if manger Ronald Koeman has room in his team for both Rooney and Sigurdson, although if he has to pick one you would have to think the superior mobility of his latest recruit would suit the needs of an away trip to the Etihad better than the ageing legs of the ex-Man United captain.

It should be a really good game this, between ex-Barcelona team-mates Guardiola and Koeman and I expect goals, but it’s hard to see past City winning out in the end.

Man City win and both teams score 2/1

Match Result 3-1, 12/1
