Tottenham Hotspur beat Newcastle United 2-0 at St. James Park yesterday. It was a tight game that flipped in Spurs favour after a moment of madness from Toon-skipper Jonjo Shelvey reduced the home side to 10 men in the 49th minute. Lets see how the players did …
One terrific save to deny Kane, did well overall and looked solid.
Fairly solid debut at right back amid a host of defensive injuries.
Went off injured 35 minutes into his debut after a strong Kane challenge.
Switched to left back after Dummett went off, was solid in both roles.
Lasted all of eight minutes before limping off clutching his hamstring.
Sent off for a stamp on Alli, ridiculous reaction cost his team dear.
A physical presence in midfield, showed signs he could be a good Premier League player.
Shown a yellow which could even have been a red card for nasty challenge on Dele as frustration grew.
His pace was electric, sometimes even too fast for team mates to keep up.
Worked hard behind the front line, chasing and trying to make things happen.
Fairly thankless task – especially after Shelvey’s red – up front but kept trying and forced Lloris into one good save.
Came on after 35 mins and worked hard for his team.
Decent shift after coming on as a sub in first-half.
Had to be on his toes a couple of times, but never really troubled.
Good solid debut for the youngster but the red made sure the second half was a more about his attacking abilities, so tougher tests to come.
A normal Ben Davies game, nothing exciting but solid and sure footed and a rare goal to seal the game.
Made one real mistake in the first-half allowing a dangerous cross to cause havoc when he should have cleared the ball, but after that played well.
As always strong and confident at the back without being stretched.
Playing in his preferred DM role and had a solid game, broke up play well.
Strong and direct on the ball, had a couple of good forward runs and always used the ball well.
Again a let-down playing out wide. Doesn’t offer any real pace or skill at all and never troubled the Newcastle defence, hauled off in the second half.
Great ball for the opener and used the ball well. His shooting is so frustrating though as most of his efforts were weak and lacked conviction.
Dele 8 (MOTM)
Clever movement throughout the game which had Newcastle worried and it was clear they wanted to try and unsettle him. Great run and finish for the goal which has become his trademark now.
Lead the line well with some good hold-up play, missed a couple of chances he would normally take in his sleep.
Came on for Sissoko and straight away offered more threat. Played a great ball to Kane at the end which should have led to an assist.
Only had around 10 mins but gave the ball away sloppily a couple of times.
