Cristiano Ronaldo grabbed all the headlines last night as came on a substitute, scored a spectacular goal and was sent off as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 to win the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup last night.
Madrid had taken the lead when Gerard Pique scored an own goal in the first half but the Catalan side drew level in the 77th minute through a Lionel Messi penalty after Luis Suarez was brought down in the area.
Ronaldo, who had started the game on the bench then scored a brilliant goal from outside the box that arrowed straight in to the top corner and his celebration, where he whipped off his jersey before holding it up to display his name to the crowd in an apparent call back to Messi’s celebration in last season’s Clasico, earned him a yellow card.

A few minutes later and the Portuguese forward was back in the book after he dived in an attempt to win a penalty. His sending off means that he will will miss next week’s second leg but Madrid will go in to that game with a two goal cushion as Marco Asensio extended the League Champions’ lead with a rasping effort from outside the area in the 90th minute.
