Forget Lukaku – Rashford May Well Be United’s Superstar

All eyes will be on Man United’s latest big money recruit, Romelu Lukaku when the Premier League season kicks off in a few weeks time. Premier League fans will be expecting the big Belgian to bang in the goals and star in a Man United title assault.

However, the man opposition defences may really need to be afraid of is United’s homegrown talent Marcus Rashford. Rashford looked razor sharp in United’s first pre season fixture against LA Galaxy, cooly slotting home twice for an impressive brace.

This is no surprise considering that in the last couple of weeks before pre-season training commenced, Rashford was not, like many of his colleagues, sunning himself in exotic holiday destinations. Rashford instead spent time in a Nike training camp in Oregon honing his fitness.

This level of dedication from the young Mancunian shows that he is determined to avoid the pitfalls that so many young players fall into once they get that big contract.

Having being schooled in United’s academy he has, no doubt, been made aware of the hard work a certain Christiano Ronaldo put in, both on the training ground and in the gym, in order to make him the star he is today.

Last season Rashford found out the truth behind the saying that the second season is often more difficult than the first, as he failed to hit the sparkling form of his breakthrough season.

He did however, finish the season strongly and it’s noticeable that Jose Mourinho, who slated several of his players publicly last season, has never had anything but positive things to say about Rashford, both in terms of ability and temperament.

It seems the youngster from Wythenshawe has all that is needed to be a superstar. He has already shown he has everything required to succeed at the highest level, combining electric pace, skill and lethal finishing ability.

With all his talent and the desire to constantly improve it may well be that the star of United’s season will turn out to be a local boy and not one of their big money signings. What’s clear is that Rashford is giving himself every chance of fulfilling his stated ambition of becoming one of the world’s best players.
