Manchester United ran out convincing 4-1 winners against Newcastle at Old Trafford earlier today.

Let’s see how the players rated …

Man United

De Gea 7

Will be gutted to have conceded his first Premier League goal of the season at Old Trafford.

A Valencia 7

As always defended well and got forward at every opportunity.

Lindelöf 5

A shaky start was compounded by falling on his arse for Newcastle’s goal. Managed not to give away any clear cut chances in second period, so at least thats a start.

Smalling 7

Looked a little nervy in first-half and is nowhere near good enough on the ball but did get up well at back post for the all-important second goal just before half-time.

Young 7

Tireless work down the left flank and a brilliant cross for his sides’ second.

Pogba 9 ( MOTM )

Showed United fan’s exactly what they have been missing of late, with some sublime through balls. A perfect return for the club’s record-signing as he assisted his sides’ second goal and scored the third.

Matic 7

Solid if unspectacular. Can concentrate solely on breaking up play now Pogba is back in the team.

Rashford 7

Sloppy in the first-period but laid on a sublime assist with his head for United’s third.

Mata 8

Got his chance at number 10 and provided that all-important link between midfield and attack that United have been struggling with in recent games.

Martial 8

Dangerous with the ball at his feet and got up well to head home the equaliser.

Lukaku 7

Took his goal emphatically which should do wonders for his confidence.

Subs

Herrera 7

Did ok, but sadly for the Spaniard he will have to get used to the Old Trafford bench now that Pogba is back.

Ibrahimovic 7

Got a rousing reception from the crowd and should be a major asset for United as the season goes on.

Fellaini 7

Caused a bit of havoc in the box as usual and was unlucky not to nick a goal.

Newcastle

Elliot 6

A couple of decent saves and didn’t really do anything wrong for any of the goals.

Yedlin 7

Blistering turn of pace to give himself enough space to lay on the assist for his sides’ goal. Struggled defensively against Martial however.

Lejeune 6

Did ok for most of the first-half but fell apart a bit in the second period. To be fair we could probably copy and paste that exact sentence for every player in Black and White.

Clark 6

It’s not been the best of weeks for the Ireland international.

Manquillo 6

Struggled against the pace of United’s attack.

Murphy 7

Maybe should have done better when in good positions in the first-half. In general a decent display by the youngster though.

Hayden 6

Worked really hard, but in the end was completely overrun in midfield as United began to dominate.

Shelvey 7

A couple of sublime switches of play to show why many feel he is England’s best passer of the ball. Kept pushing right until the end and was really unlucky with one long-range strike that whistled just wide of the post.

Ritchie 6

Covered a lot of ground, but just couldn’t effect the game enough.

Gayle 7

Took his goal well and made life difficult for United’s defenders at times.

Joselu 6

Pressed well but carried zero attacking threat.

Subs

Aarons 5

Lost possession sloppily on a couple of occasions.

Diamé N/A

No impact.

Mitrovic N/A

No impact.
