Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United got their Premier League campaign off to the perfect start with a convincing 4-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford today. Lets see how the players fared …
Manchester United
De Gea 7
One decent save in first half, quiet afternoon for the Spaniard.
Valencia 7
United’s captain was solid and dependable as always.
Bailly 7
Continued last seasons solid form, dominant.
Jones 7
Composed at the back, will be hoping he can stay fit for a sustained period in what is surely a break-or-break season for the defender.
Blind 7
Such an intelligent footballer, passed well and carried out his defensive duties adequately.
Matic 9 ( MOTM )
A Beast. What a performance from the big Serb, brought such authority to United’s midfield play. A bad weekend for Antonio Conte must have got even worse when he saw how seamlessly Matic fitted into The Red’s team.
Pogba 7
Some sublime touches and brilliant passes mixed with some poor decision-making at times. Took goal brilliantly though.
Mata 7
Intelligent movement caused West Ham a lot of problems in the first-half, a yard of pace short of being world-class.
Mkhitaryan 7
Flashes of brilliance, another for which this season could be career defining.
Rashford 8
Struggled initially, but came alive after assist for opener, ran Zabaleta ragged in second-period.
Lukaku 8
Took both his goals well, areas to improve, but still the perfect start to his Old Trafford career.
Subs
Fellaini 6
Kept possession well when brought on, exactly as instructed, probably why managers keep picking him.
Lingard N/A
No Impact.
Martial 7
Looked hungry in brief cameo, composed finish for third goal.
West Ham United
Hart 6
Not a happy return to Manchester for England’s number one.
Zabaleta 6
Had his hands full against the youth of Rashford and Martial, stuck to his task well however.
Reid 6
Tough day at the office for West Ham’s defensive leader.
Ogbonna 6
Like so many of the Wets Ham side, seemed to turn off a notch after United’s first goal.
Masuaku 4
Caught on camera laughing and joking in the build up to United’s all-important third goal, muppet.
Noble 7
Worked hard and tried to get his side going, lacks the dynamism of a younger player but experience will be useful for the Hammers throughout the season.
Obiang 5
Not his best display in Claret and Blue, gave the ball away in lead up to United’s opener.
Ayew 5
Anonymous, needs to do more.
Fernandes 5
Chasing shadows for most of the afternoon, will learn from the experience.
Arnautovic 6
Set piece delivery really poor, has plenty of talent though and will have better days.
Hernández 7
Never got the chance that the tireless effort he put in deserved.
Subs
Cresswell 6
A instant upgrade on Masuaku.
Rice 7
One of the few positives for Slaven Bilic, looked really composed.
Sakho 5
Either wasn’t fully fit for just doesn’t care, was pedestrian up-front after coming on the hour-mark.
