Newcastle and Liverpool played out a entertaining 1-1 draw at St. James Park earlier today. Let’s see how the players rated…
Could do nothing about Liverpool’s goal. Solid shift and excellent distribution.
Had his hands full against the speed and movement of Liverpools wingers, but overall a decent showing.
Another impressive performance by the Premier League’s youngest captain.
One second-half brainfart almost cost his team the game, but apart from that played well.
His pace came in handy against Salah and Mane, decent shift.
Ritchie 8 ( MOTM )
Put in a tireless shift for his team and looked dangerous whenever in possession.
Worked hard. Some nice touches, but was sloppy in possession a bit too often in first-half.
Obviously has temperament issues, but there are few better passers of the ball in the Premier League. Sublime through ball for his side’s goal.
Apart from one occasion in second-half when he got in behind Gomez, he really struggled.
Covered a lot of ground, failed to make much of an impact however.
Worked hard up front. Fortunate for his goal, but he won’t care.
Battled hard in midfield during his 15 minutes.
Buzzed about without making any real impact.
Almost nicked it right at the end, but his close-range effort was blocked by Lovren.
Didn’t have much to do and couldn’t be blamed for equaliser.
Attacked well in first-half and kept Atsu quiet for the most part.
Not too bad overall, but like his centre-back partner has to shoulder the blame for a criminal gap left in the centre of Liverpool’s defence for Newcastle’s goal.
Unlucky he played the ball off Joselu for the equaliser. They say you make your own luck, so maybe he didn’t deserve any after allowing the Newcastle striker to run through on goal in the first place.
A decent shift by the much maligned left-back.
Solid enough and kept his team ticking over at times. Is that enough for a Liverpool captain though ?
Unlucky with a brilliant flicked effort from a corner in first-half. Covered a lot of ground in centre of the park.
Such a threat with his pace and movement at times, but missed a big chance with score at 1-1.
Looked a little rusty after his enforced lay off. Failed to make as much of a impact as we have come to expect from the Senegal international.
Lit the game up with a world-class finish in the 29th minute. Looks back to his best despite a turbulent summer.
Missed a great chance to win it for his side. Looks a shadow of the player from a couple of seasons ago.
Went close with one decent clipped header.
Just didn’t get the type of chance he craved to win the game for his team.
Missed a decent chance in the dying moments. It wasn’t the easiest opportunity, but critics will of course say its the type of big chance that a £40 million player should be doing better with.
